The Minnesota Horsemen's Benevolent & Protective Association, Inc. (MNHBPA) is the legal representative of the independent horse trainers and owners who race at Canterbury Park, Shakopee, MN.  In addition to negotiating the annual purse contract with the racetrack, the organization provides many benefits to the trainers and their employees who work on the backside.  These include sponsorship of recreational programs, paying a portion of the Chaplain's salary, and representing horsemen in general to issues with the racetrack.  Representatives meet every week with track management to discuss and correct track conditions, backside accommodations, and any of the wide range of problems that may develop during the live racing season.  The MNHBPA is the only horseman's organization that hires a full time lobbyist to pursue legislation and protect the interest of horsemen.  This effort was instrumental in enabling the establishment of the Canterbury Park Card Club that generates substantial revenues for purses.

The MNHBPA provides through its Foundation benevolent assistance to the trainers, their employees and dependents for clinic, hospital, dental, prescription, chiropractic, day care and eye care services.
